Over 30% of elementary school students attend school without eating breakfast. Numerous studies have proven that when children are provided with the proper nutrition, there is a positive impact on their cognition, behavior and academic performance. These studies have produced evidence that poorly nourished children do not make the same intellectual and social gains in a learning environment. It is our desire that each child attends school with the same opportunities for learning and social development. The Food for Learning Committee works directly with the school community to determine the needs of the children in each participating school.
To support our students, given that the Wildcat Cafe has become an additional classroom this fall, Bayside Public School is working to develop a "grab and go" breakfast program that will operate out of the Main Building. The "grab and go" breakfast program will provide quick and healthy breakfast options to the children who will then take it to class with them to enjoy during our morning exercises. In the meantime, food is available to students through each classroom's snack bin. The breakfast program will be open to students beginning at 7:45 a.m. There are no requirements for attending a breakfast club, no questions asked. Any child who wishes to drop in and grab some breakfast is welcome.
Breakfast programs across the school board are supported through the assistance of volunteers. If you would like to volunteer your time and/or make a donation to the breakfast program, please contact the main office at the school for more information.
