Pediculosis Quicksheet

Parents are strongly encouraged to:

  • Speak to their children about head lice and teach them to avoid head-to-head contact that they should not share combs, hairbrushes, caps, hats or hair ornaments with other students.
  • Examine their children’s head weekly for signs of infestation as part of routine hygiene or more often during an outbreak;
  • Notify the school and others (e.g. family members, neighbours) who have come into contact with the child who has head lice;

Teachers will:

  • Coninue to report suspected cases of head lice to the principal; and
  • Limit activities in the classroom where heads would touch when a child has been identified as having pediculosis until he or she has been treated.

The School will:

  • Continue to screen students, as necessary, for head lice;
  • Notify parents of students in the same class and/or riding on the same bus as a student identified with head lice;
  • Distribute head lice information to all staff and families of students through our newsletter, website, and/or school handbook.
